October 21, 2009 (FORT MYERS, FL) – T F Marine Boat Sales & Yacht Brokerage is kicking off a month long “Boatload of Food” drive to help fight hunger in Lee County from October 24th through the month of November.
The Fort Myers boat dealership and yacht brokerage is asking for non-perishable food donations to be dropped off beginning with the 5th Annual Nautical Flea Market on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 9am – 3pm at 13400 Palm Beach Boulevard, Fort Myers. Donations will be donated to Community Cooperative Ministries, Inc. (CCMI) Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry.
“Hunger is a real issue in our community and we can’t just sit on the sidelines and do nothing,” said Cheryl Fischer, co-owner of T F Marine. “We are asking our employees, friends, business neighbors, customers and the public to bring donations that will be donated to the Soup Kitchen.”
Fischer estimates it will take approximately 1000 lbs of food to fill a 22’ Pioneer Bay Boat.
A “wish list” of items requested include cornbread mix, cereal, peanut butter, packaged cookies and snacks, jelly, flavored rice bags and pasta, spaghetti and sauce, macaroni and cheese, handheld can openers, ramen noodles, Ziploc sandwich bags, Vienna sausages, Spam, canned meats, pop-top cans of vegetables, chili, meats and fruit, as well as non-food items including diapers, bug spray, sub block and travel size toiletries.

Community Cooperative Ministries (CCMI) was incorporated in 1984, and has long been a driving force in the Fort Myers community, providing food to homeless and nearly homeless, as well as emergency groceries and affordable childcare to the working poor. In July of 2006 the agency expanded its mission and outreach to Lee County by merging with agencies that had historically provided home delivered meals to the homebound hungry (Meals on Wheels), and transportation services to the frail elderly (Faith In Action) and The Soup Kitchen. This merger created an agency that is able to provide comprehensive, unduplicated services to the homeless, nearly homeless, homebound, seniors and children more effectively, more efficiently and with greater compassion than at any other time in the former agencies histories.
